Jeanne chante ; elle se penche
\nEt s\u2019envole ; elle me pla\u00eet ;
\nEt, comme de branche en branche,
\nVa de couplet en couplet.<\/p>\n

De quoi donc me parlait-elle ?
\nAvec sa fleur au corset,
\nEt l\u2019aube dans sa prunelle,
\nQu\u2019est-ce donc qu\u2019elle disait ?<\/p>\n

Parlait-elle de la gloire,
\nDes camps, du ciel, du drapeau,
\nOu de ce qu\u2019il faut de moire
\nAu bavolet d\u2019un chapeau ?<\/p>\n

Son intention fut-elle
\nDe troubler l\u2019esprit voil\u00e9
\nQue Dieu dans ma chair mortelle
\nEt fr\u00e9missante a m\u00eal\u00e9 ?<\/p>\n

Je ne sais. J\u2019\u00e9coute encore.
\n\u00c9tait-ce psaume ou chanson ?
\nLes fauvettes de l\u2019aurore
\nDonnent le m\u00eame frisson.<\/p>\n

J\u2019\u00e9tais comme en une f\u00eate ;
\nJ\u2019essayais un vague essor ;
\nJ\u2019eusse voulu sur ma t\u00eate
\nMettre une couronne d\u2019or,<\/p>\n

Et voir sa beaut\u00e9 sans voiles,
\nEt joindre \u00e0 mes jours ses jours,
\nEt prendre au ciel les \u00e9toiles,
\nEt qu\u2019on v\u00eent \u00e0 mon secours !<\/p>\n

J\u2019\u00e9tais ivre d\u2019une femme ;
\nMal charmant qui fait mourir.
\nH\u00e9las ! je me sentais l\u2019\u00e2me
\nTouch\u00e9e et pr\u00eate \u00e0 s\u2019ouvrir ;<\/p>\n

Car, pour qu\u2019un cerveau se f\u00eale
\nEt s\u2019\u00e9chappe en songes vains,
\nIl suffit du bout de l\u2019aile
\nD\u2019un de ces oiseaux divins.<\/p>\n
