D\u2019autres, fils de barons et de princes royaux,
\nGardent amples et clairs leurs orgueils f\u00e9odaux.<\/p>\n

On les \u00e9tablit chefs de larges monast\u00e8res
\nEt leur nom resplendit dans les gloires aust\u00e8res :<\/p>\n

Ils ont, comme jadis l\u2019a\u00efeul avait sa tour,
\nLeur clo\u00eetre pour manoir et leurs moines pour cour.<\/p>\n

Ils s\u2019assoient dans les plis cass\u00e9s droits de leurs bures,
\nTels que des chevaliers dans l\u2019acier des armures ;<\/p>\n

Ils portent devant eux leur grande crosse en buis,
\nMajestueusement, comme un glaive conquis ;<\/p>\n

Ils parlent au chapitre en justiciers gothiques,
\nEt leur arr\u00eat confond les p\u00e9nitents mystiques ;<\/p>\n

Ils r\u00eavent de combats dont Dieu serait le prix
\nEt de guerre men\u00e9e \u00e0 coups de crucifix ;<\/p>\n

Ils sont les gardiens blancs des chr\u00e9tiennes id\u00e9es,
\nQui restent au couchant sur le monde accoud\u00e9es ;<\/p>\n

Ils vivent sans sortir de leur r\u00eave inf\u00e9cond,
\nMais ce r\u00eave est si haut qu\u2019on ne voit pas leur front ;<\/p>\n

Leur chim\u00e8re grandit et monte avec leur \u00e2ge
\nEt monte d\u2019autant plus qu\u2019on la cingle et l\u2019outrage ;<\/p>\n

Et jusqu\u2019au bout leur foi luira d\u2019un feu vermeil,
\nComme un monument d\u2019or ouvert dans le
