Par une nuit d\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9, quand le ciel est d\u2019azur,
\nSouvent un feu follet sort du marais impur.
\nLe passant qui le voit le prend pour la lumi\u00e8re
\nQui scintille aux carreaux lointains d\u2019une chaumi\u00e8re ;
\nVers le fanal perfide il s\u2019avance \u00e0 grands pas,
\nTout joyeux ; et bient\u00f4t, ne s\u2019apercevant pas
\nQu\u2019un ab\u00eeme est ouvert \u00e0 ses pieds, il y tombe,
\nEt son corps reste l\u00e0 sans pri\u00e8re et sans tombe.
\nAux lieux o\u00f9 fut Ghomorre autrefois, et que Dieu
\nEn courroux inonda d\u2019un d\u00e9luge de feu,
\nSur la gr\u00e8ve br\u00fbl\u00e9e, asile frais et sombre,
\nDes orangers touffus s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8vent en grand nombre,
\nCharg\u00e9s de fruits riants dont la tunique d\u2019or
\nNe livre que poussi\u00e8re \u00e0 la dent qui les mord :
\nDans ma pens\u00e9e, ami, je trouve qu\u2019une femme
\nQui sous de beaux semblants cache une vilaine \u00e2me,
\nPour ceux que sa beaut\u00e9 d\u00e9cevante a s\u00e9duits,
\nPareille au feu follet, l\u2019est encore \u00e0 ces
